Atherton High’s Interact club embarked on an exciting new project constructing sleeping mats for the homeless. The project recycles plastic bags into hygienic, waterproof, transportable mats which act as a barrier between a homeless person’s bedding and the ground. It takes approximately 400 to 500 bags to make a mat of approximately 1.2 by 2 metres.  Our project commenced with our 27 Interactors working with the project creator Nur Bajramovic to begin the process of flattening, cutting, tying and balling the bags into yarn which will then be crocheted into the mats. The students will continue working on the mats throughout the term.
