Tuesday last week, Atherton State High School hosted our annual Careers
Showcase. This culminating event was well attended by around 110 Year 10
students from both Atherton and Herberton State High Schools. The Showcase was well supported by many local
and regional business representatives who came in to do some 'speed careering'.
Each presenter initially spoke for one minute to tell their career story and
outline the benefits of working in a wide variety of industries. Students then took the opportunity to talk
personally, with each presenter, within their areas of interest. This is due to
the Year 10 VEP Careers program that has run at school during Term 1 and 2.
Thanks to our teaching staff for the delivery of this high quality program to
date. A special mention to Mr Bruce Dane who co-ordinates the Careers Showcase
and Careers Program for Year 10 at Atherton State High School in his role as
Senior Support Teacher. In Term 3, our
Year 10 students will continue to focus on careers when they have talks from
subject Heads of Departments – Teaching and Learning, attend Curriculum
Information Evening on Tuesday 25 July and finalise subject selections for 2018
by completing a SET P interview.
