The Goat Club Team represented Atherton State High School at the Atherton Show. The team was involved in four events; Judging, Grooming, Handling and Fancy dress. For the judging, three students are allocated to a pen consisting of three meat goats or three dairy goats. Students were required to examine the goats and rank each goat using criteria such as structure, teeth and conformation and speak to an audience about why they placed each goat. Grooming involved paying meticulous attention to detail on all aspects of grooming; brushing, trimming and washing of the goat. Handling a goat takes a lot of patience and persistence, you are marked on your handling ability, ringcraft and knowledge of the goat. To add a little bit of fun and creativity to the events a fancy dress contest was held. Students dressed up the goats and themselves following the theme of Under the Sea and looked fabulous!  The school did very well and came back with many ribbons.
