On Saturday 22 October, Tableland Cycle Sports hosted the first Urban Downhill on the eastern seaboard, and only the second one in the country.  Urban Downhill is a twist on the traditional and exciting sport of Downhill Mountain Biking. It brings the thrills and excitement into an accessible and spectator friendly environment. The race involved descending Halloran's Hill, through man-made obstacles such as timber beams, log obstacles, hip jumps, gap jumps, rollers, a low-loader and a shipping container drop. The exciting, challenging course finishing at the old primary school.  Practice runs commenced at 3pm and racing started at 4.45pm, where riders had one attempt to post the fastest time to the finish.  Two Atherton High students made the podium in the Under 17 category, Nick Honan, (above, bottom right) first, with a time of 4min 40secs; and Harry Phillips(below left), second, with a time of 4min 52secs. There were 15 riders in the U17 category, and 40 riders in total.  Both Nick and Harry said the course was challenging but loads of fun and they can't wait to do it again next year.  Tracey Hannah, Australia's number one female downhill rider and number three in the world, also participated in the race.  Congratulations Nick and Harryand all the best for your biking future.
