On Friday the 26th August our U12 netballers
participated in a regional netball carnival in Cairns. A total of 45 teams from
both Primary and Secondary schools from all over the Far North Region
participated. Some from as far away as
Western Cape College. This was an unprecedented number of participating
teams. Luckily, Cairns has a new netball
facility with 12 courts and can support the growing needs of this sport.
The team was comprised of four players from ASHS, two
players from Malanda SS (Shontay Jones and Bonnie Stremouchiw) and four players
from Atherton SS (Lillian Caulfield, Brydee Cummings, Emily Sopronick and Mya
Sopronick. Thank you to all schools and
particularly the players and parents who supported the opportunity for these
girls to participate in this valuable team sport experience.
Our team came in third place in their pool, which was a
wonderful outcome. Seven of the players play together or against each other in
the local Atherton Netball competitions.
Three of these players were new to the game and this was their first
netball experience. The girls all grew
in experience and skill throughout the day.
a big thank you to parents Mick Barlow who supported in the coaching role,
Megan Jones who acted as manager, Dale Constant who umpired for our team and to
the other parents who transported, fed and supported our team on the day. Without the support of our dedicated parents
our team would not have been as successful.
