Guidance Officer

The Guidance Officer at Atherton State High School assists students to remove barriers in accessing the curriculum and developing career pathways. Collaboration occurs with students and their parents or caregivers, often in conjunction with teachers, administration personnel, specialist support staff and other community agencies to meet the individual well-being and educational needs of students.

 

A Guidance Officers is a qualified teacher with a minimum two years experience and a post graduate Masters of Guidance and Counselling. 

 

Support may include: 

 

  • Assessing students' developmental levels & abilities;
  • Helping students adjust to new settings and transition stages of school;
  • Providing short-term counselling and psycho-education for individuals and groups;
  • Assessing student placement and specialist support needs;
  • Advocating for the educational and personal well-being of students;
  • Career education and counselling;
  • Assisting with crisis management;
  • Assisting students with mental health and well-being issues;
  • Networking and liaison with community support agencies and;
  • Referring to support agencies to meet individual student and family needs as required.

 

The Guidance Officer at Atherton State High School is Bebe Worsfield and his office is located in the Student Services building.
